I brought my vehicle in for an AC recharge service and ended up being charged $500 for diagnostics, dye, and refrigerant, with NO ACTUAL REPAIRS COMPLETED. After keeping my car for not even 1 full day, I was told the AC system would require major repairs and that the engine had serious timing chain and misfire issues they would not attempt to fix. While I understand vehicles can have expensive problems, I’m extremely disappointed with the amount charged without any meaningful repair work being done. I left feeling frustrated, discouraged, and without a real solution after spending a significant amount of money. While I expected to pay for products and time spent on my vehicle, $500 is an exorbitant amount to spend for no real work performed. Although they have some positive reviews, based on my experience I cannot and will not recommend this auto repair shop to anyone! Edited to add the following info; took my vehicle to a neighborhood repair shop Ray and Dana's Inman Auto and had a completely different experience from above. I explained to them I wanted my vehicle checked for AC work and was told by a previous auto shop that the engine was no good and was misfiring and basically to junk the car that I had just bought, they checked my engine out agreed with the previous diagnosis that the engine was misfiring and the codes found set them to figure out the engine problem was with the coil, they then contacted Hyundai directly who told them my vehicle would be covered for all engine work provided they found the same codes. Ray and Dana not only went the extra mile to check my vehicle and set up my service with Hyundai but they only charged me a quarter of what Nergers Auto Express charged me, and they actually put in the work physically and by phone. I Took my vehicle to the Hyundai dealer the next day and was told exactly what Ray and Dana stated to me. In my opinion this is what it means to have a trustworthy & reliable auto shop and to deal with trustworthy people. Also, I understand other people have had great experiences but again this proves to me that it's not a business I could recommend with a clear conscience.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, Jack. We understand why this situation felt frustrating, especially after spending a significant amount of money and still leaving with major concerns about the vehicle. When your vehicle first came to us, the original request was for a price to installation a condenser supplied by you. During our diagnostic process, we could not confirm the condenser was the primary failure. The system had no refrigerant present, failed a vacuum hold test indicating a leak, and after recharging and testing, the compressor was not circulating refrigerant properly. Installing the condenser you originally requested would not have solved the issue and could have resulted in additional unnecessary expense. The diagnostic charges reflected the evacuation and recharge procedures, refrigerant, dye, repeated testing, and technician time required to accurately determine the condition of the system. Unfortunately, because the compressor was not circulating properly, the dye could not fully travel through the system to pinpoint the exact leak source without further component replacement. Additionally, during a cold start the following morning, our technician discovered a serious timing chain/internal engine concern that was not present while the engine was warm the previous day. Given the known failure history of these Hyundai engines, we felt it was more honest and responsible to advise against investing heavily into A/C repairs before addressing the larger engine concerns. For 37 years, our shop has built its reputation on being open, honest, and thorough, even when the findings are not what anyone hoped for. With over 575 Google reviews and a 4.7-star rating, many customers trust us specifically because we diagnose issues accurately instead of replacing parts unnecessarily. We truly appreciate your feedback and understand your disappointment. We are disappointed also! Our goal was never to leave you discouraged, but rather to give you an honest assessment of the vehicle so you could make the most informed decision possible. The Nerger's Auto Team
